Recreation

RECREATION
Do you enjoy getting out and pushing yourself to the limits of your endurance? Or, at least getting up off the couch for an hour or two? The Town of Cochrane has many recreational activities available to both residents and visitors to our community.

Tim Horton Events Centre

Cochrane is the home of a beautiful new recreational facility called the Tim Horton Events Centre. Most Canadians know the name Tim Horton; not all know that he was an elite National Hockey League player from Cochrane. We do and we're proud of it. Visit the Tim Horton Events Centre and check out the NHL sized rink, community hall, fitness center, and the state-of-the-art and newest recreational complex in Northeastern Ontario.

Lake Commando Beach
Part of Cochrane's charm is beautiful Lake Commando. Its central location and easy access makes it the ideal spot to catch a few rays or cool off on those hot summer days. Beach season is from July 1 to August 31 from noon to 8:00 PM, 7 days a week.

Safety and Endurance courses are offered during the month of July. Whether you're preparing for the Round the Lake swim or you would like to learn more about summer safety, these courses are an excellent way to get in shape and enjoy the summer weather.

Greenwater Provincial Park
Unfortunately our beloved Greenwater Park was closed due to budget cut.
Please take fifteen minutes to view the video of what Greenwater park really means to the people of the region who used it and to see how it is a part of our cultural fabric.

Greenwater Provincial Park, operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources, is located 32 kilometers from town.  This 5350 hectare natural environment park offers 90 campsites in three different campgrounds.  There is a good sandy beach for swimmers to enjoy.  The lakes are stocked with lake and rainbow trout.  You can also catch northern pike, pickerel or perch.  There are several hiking trails of varying lengths within the park.
